A client asked me about linked homes recently… what are they? What does it mean for them?

A linked house is a house that looks like a detached house from the ground up, but it is built on a lot that was designed for a semi-detached home, so you essentially have a narrower lot size. Links usually share a basement or foundation wall with the neighbouring house. So, on one side your neighbour would be really close, that is, you wouldn’t have a side lot on the one side.
Cost-wise, they cost more than a semi, but less than a detached. It’s great bang for your buck as you’re getting a mostly detached house for less $$$. And they are found all over the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area.
Keep in mind that this type of build was fairly popular in the 70s, so the houses will usually be 50 ish years old. Just look for properties that seem to be well-maintained.
